Occasionally called the Sweetheart plant (Philodendron literally means love tree!)
Originating in the Caribbean, these plants tend to prefer warm humid environments. They would dig a weekly watering during their growing season (usually summer) and an every other week watering in their off season (usually winter.) These plants are pretty easygoing and will let you know if they aren't happy, developing yellow leaves if overwatered and droopy, wilted leaves when thirsty
Philodendrons are pretty easygoing when it comes to light. They like bright indirect light (think 3-5 feet from a very sunny window, or very close to a not so sunny window) but will adjust to most lighting conditions. In lower light, or if too far from the light source, your plant will get "leggy," with longer vines and more space between the leaves. If this happens move your plant closer to the light and they'll thank you!
These plants are very easygoing and a great choice for first time plant parents!
Philodendrons are mildly poisonous to people and animals, so be sure to use caution if you live with small humans or furry friends.
